If you have not yet created your PI, please see the following academy page first:
How do I create Prescribing Information?
Once you have created your PI in the portal, you can generate your QR code.
Fill in your Prescribing Information details as usual. At the bottom, next to the "Preview" button, you will see the option to "Get QR Code"
Clicking on this will open up a pop-up where you can select the size of the image you would like to create.
(If you choose one that ends up not being as you need it, you can go back and select another)
The option you select will download onto your device so that you can save and distribute it in the same way you would with the URL.
QR Code Size Guide
The size of the QR code really depends on your use case and how near you would expect someone to get to it - a 10:1 ratio of distance to size seems to be the accepted norm with many recommending a minimum of 2cm by 2cm.
For example, with materials in A4, 2cm x 2cm would be ok if you are speaking one to one with a healthcare professional, provided they are sitting next to you and can scan within 20cm distance from the QR code. If they are sitting further away from you, it might need to be bigger.
Also worth bearing in mind that ideally you should keep to one QR code per page (to avoid 'mis-scanning'), and that the print/render quality should be sufficient. This can be more of a challenge with larger QR codes. Though printers often ask for 300dpi when using JPEG or PNG to ensure print quality, 96dpi is a good standard for normal usage, so if you want to ensure the resolution is enough for a 2cm x 2cm QR code, then 76px x 76px would meet that requirement (76px/0.79 inches = 96 dpi).
For our QR code functionality, we provide the QR code as an SVG file as well, so this is scalable to almost any size without loss of resolution. This makes life much easier when resizing the image, and SVG is often the preferred format of printers - most users won't have software that can open these files, but printers/designers will.
Please Note ✏️
Like the URL, the QR code will return an error page for anyone who tries to access it before you select "Publish" on emc pi portal.
