Where Does the Information Come From?

All the information on emc website comes directly from pharmaceutical companies.

Approximately 250 pharmaceutical companies have a paid subscription to the emc. Datapharm publishes their information on the emc website.

This is the process for how the information is approved and added:

  1. The pharmaceutical company drafts a Summary of Product Characteristics (SmPC) and Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) / Package Leaflet (PL), using all the up to date information about their medicine.
  2. The UK or European medicines licensing agencies - the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) or the European Medicines Agency (EMA) - then check and approve the information.
  3. The pharmaceutical company publishes the approved SmPC and PIL on the emc website.
