Product Details

Product Name

The Product Name is a free text box.

Type in your product name (usually the trade name of the product), strength, and formulation. For example:

  • Zocor 10mg Tablets
  • Nicorette 2mg Gum
  • BrandX 150mg/15ml solution for injection ampules.

For generic drugs the product name is the generic name, strength, formulation. For example:

  • Atenolol 100mg Tablets.

Related VMP

The Virtual Medicinal Product (VMP) is usually the generic name, strength, form. For example:

  • Paracetamol 500mg tablets;
  • Paracetamol 250mg/5ml oral suspension sugar free;
  • Heparin sodium 25,000units/5ml solution for injection vials or Aqueous cream.

To find a VMP, click the Lookup button. Enter all or part of the generic name into the search box. A list of current VMP names on the dm+d database is shown.


Click on the exact match for your product.


If you cannot find a match, click "Not Listed" at the top of the menu.


Formulation

This is the dose form of the product (e.g. cream, drops, tablets, capsules, etc.)

Select the exact formulation from the drop down list. If your dose form is not listed, please contact the NHSBSA dm+d helpdesk at nhsbsa.indemandppdsupport@nhs.net 

Some combination products have a mixture of forms. For example tablets/capsules or cream/pessaries. Select 'not applicable' from the list for such combination products.


Licensed Routes

A route is the place in or on the body where the product is introduced to have its effect e.g. oral, subcutaneous. Only include the licensed routes of administration.


Click the down arrow to display an alphabetical list of Licensed Routes. Click on the correct route to add it to your submission. More than one route can be added.


To remove a route of administration, click on the "X" on the right of a selected route.


New Product Name

If you create a product update submission, there is an optional field to add a new Product Name. For example if your product has a new approved generic name or if the product name changes from a BANN to a rINN.
