How to Discontinue a Product

The emc regulatory publishing tool allows you to mark products as discontinued when needed or to fully retire them and remove them from the emc.

Discontinued: A product could be marked as discontinued if it is no longer marketed/sold, however there could still be a need for patients or HCP's to access the information. In this case you would mark the product as discontinued while keeping the associated content published.

Retire: Retiring a product is when it is no longer marketed/sold and you are sure that there is no need for the information to remain available. In this case you would retire the associated SmPC and PIL, and submit to be retired (removed from the emc). This is because a product without at least an SmPC or PIL cannot be listed on the emc

For help with retiring a product please see 'How to retire a product' and 'Discontinue Vs Retire' help pages.

To mark a product as discontinued, go into your 'All Products' page via the left-side menu

Select 'update' on the relevant Product Group

Then select 'Discontinue' on the relevant product presentation

Add the reason for the discontinuation from the drop-down menu that appears

Select 'Save changes' or cancel to undo this request

You will be taken back to the product group management page where your product will now show as draft status; you can come back later to finish/submit this, or you can do this now.

If you wish to submit the discontinued banner for this product then select 'Continue'

Please Note 📝

To cancel a discontinuation, select cancel and then 'Remove' to delete that action and return the product to its previous state of published

You will be taken to the submission summary page where you can review and confirm the changes you have selected

Press 'Submit' to publish the discontinued banner on emc for that product or click 'Cancel' to return to the dashboard

Please Note 📝

Adding a discontinued banner to a product will show it instantly on the emc website after you submit this update

If you select 'Submit' this product will be marked as discontinued on the emc, at the top of that products page and in your portfolio in the 'All Products' page
